Tree Felling & Tree Removal

When it comes to safety, there are instances where a tree must be removed. This can be attributed to factors such as rot, disease, infection, or when it poses a hazardous lean towards overhead cables, roads, or railway tracks. Our team possesses both the necessary tools and expertise to efficiently and safely carry out this potentially risky task.

Crown Reductions

In contrast to crown lifting, crown reduction involves removing only the upper limbs and branches of a tree to decrease its overall height. A tree that is growing dangerously close to overhead power cables, telephone wires, or other obstructions is an accident waiting to happen, so we will ensure the tree is healthy and will not cause problems for anyone..

Hedge Trimming

Tree pollarding is often done for aesthetics and to control the size of a tree. After pollarding, it’s important to regularly maintain the tree by re-pollarding it at regular intervals to prevent excessive regrowth from one point. Without proper maintenance, pollarded trees can fail due to increased regrowth. Therefore, a regular maintenance schedule is crucial to prevent failure.

Stump Grinding

Stump grinding involves removing the tree stump left behind after a tree has been felled using a specialised stump grinding machine. Once a tree has been removed, the final step to prevent regrowth is to eliminate the stump from the ground. We are capable of removing any number of stumps during a single visit, and we use professional stump grinding equipment

Dead Wood Pruning

Dead Wooding is where branches or limbs die off within a tree and can either break off or become  dangerous. Removing the dead wood reduces the risk of limbs falling or breaking off in high winds. Pruning dead wood is primarily aimed at ensuring the safety and ongoing health of the tree, showing the importance of proactive tree care and maintenance.

Interesting Fact - How was Stevenage named?

The roots of Stevenage can be traced back to a small community nestled on a wooded hill in North Hertfordshire during Saxon times. This area, known as ‘Stigenace’, meaning ‘at the Strong Oak’, saw the formation of groups in what is now Chells, Woolenwick, Broadwater, and Shephall.

Before this, human settlement in the region began during the Stone Age, or Palaeolithic era, when hunter-gatherers were drawn to the area due to its abundance of flint nodules found within chalk ground rock. These early settlers used these hard stones to craft basic tools and weapons through a process known as ‘knapping’. As time went on, the community transitioned from a hunting and gathering lifestyle to settled farming during the Neolithic period, leading to the establishment of an early community within the boundaries of Stevenage.

FAQ’s – Tree Surgery in Stevenage

What tree services do you offer in Stevenage?

In Stevenage and its neighbouring areas, across Hertfordshire such as Hitchin, Letchworth Garden City, Hertford, Baldock, Ware, and Welwyn Garden City. We offer a wide range of tree services, including:

  • Tree felling and removal
  • Tree pollarding
  • Tree surveys

Should I notify my neighbours before tree work begins?

It is considerate to inform your neighbours about the upcoming tree work near their property. This allows them to be aware of potential noise from equipment like chainsaws, chippers, or stump grinders, especially since many people are now working from home.

Does my neighbour have to cut back their trees or hedges?

In most situations, you do not have the legal right to compel your neighbours to trim or remove the trees that obstruct your view. According to common law, you are allowed to prune back the parts of a tree or hedge that extend beyond your neighbour’s property and into yours. However, this is subject to any legal restrictions like Tree Preservation Orders or Conservation Areas. It’s important to note that you cannot force your neighbours to perform or pay for this work. Additionally, you don’t have a legal right to an unobstructed view if your neighbour’s trees are blocking it.

How is wildlife effected by tree surgery?

To protect the natural habitats of native wildlife, our work is governed by The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Trees and hedges can often be a habitat for animals and nesting wild birds, and these are all protected in the Act whilst they are actively nesting or roosting. The Act also makes it an offence to destroy any wild bird eggs.

As part of our initial assessment, we check the nesting or roosting birds and can advise on a safe and legal time of year to carry out your tree work.

What are protected trees?

Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and Conservation Areas. It is essential to obtain permission from the local planning authority before carrying out any work on these protected trees. Our professional team will handle all the necessary paperwork for you once you hire us for tree work. The application process usually takes approximately eight weeks for TPOs and around six weeks for Conservation Area work. Once the required permissions are obtained, we will schedule a suitable date to commence the work. For more information, please visit the official government website.

How much does it cost to hire a professional tree surgeon?

Due to the wide range of tasks and the varying size and complexity of each job, it is challenging to provide an accurate quote or estimate over the phone. To ensure reliable pricing, we offer a complimentary site inspection. This allows us to give you an accurate quote with no obligation. We have fair pricing, 5-star reviews, and years of expertise in tree services for both commercial and residential clients. You can trust us for all of your tree requirements. Get in touch with us today for a quote.

How do we approach each job, in terms of safety?

Health and safety is our top priority! Each job is planned as one would expect, and all risks are assessed; which is why we carry out an on-site risk assessment upon arrival at each site every day.
